Full-Time, Non-Exempt Purpose:
To plan, direct and supervise food service in response to the needs of guests, campers and programs.
This includes weekend retreats, school groups on weekdays, special events and the summer camp program.
To participate in Johnsonburg's hospitality for guest groups, welcoming and serving them.
Responsibilities:
Plan, supervise and prepare made-from-scratch meals to meet the program, guest schedule and budget Serve as primary cook for year round and summer programs, guest groups Prepare alternative meals for special dietary needs:
vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, etc.
as needed Implement proper food handling and storage procedures Supervise and organize equipment and supplies in dining halls, kitchen, pantry and kitchen supply storerooms Supervise dish washing, clean up and sanitation processes Approve food orders, receive food orders, store food and food service supplies Supervise food service operations for cookouts and outpost dining Practice adequate inventory control to reduce waste and spoilage and maintain a cost efficient service operation Follow proper nutritional meal preparation standards Work with Facilities Staff to maintain all kitchen equipment Plan food service budget with Associate Director of Operations for next year Help recruit, orient, train and develop kitchen staff and volunteers Actively participate in all staff meetings and initiatives; follow all organizational policies and procedures Perform any additional duties as needed in the spirit of cooperation and teamwork required by all members of the staff to ensure the mission goals and objectives are met Normal working hours are weekends/weekdays year round; longer as needed during summer
Qualifications:
Able to support the mission of Johnsonburg Camp and Retreat Center Previous food service experience with ability to create menus, order food supplies and schedule staff SERVSafe Certified; Ability to meet and exceed Board of Health standards and healthy standards for food service Positive attitude and ability to mentor young kitchen staff Ability to make recommendations for menu and food service improvement Ability to work independently, maintaining accountability Creative, proactive problem solving abilities Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing one on one or in a group setting Able to serve diverse cultures and socio-economic groups Personal neatness, dependability, honesty, congeniality and work schedule flexibility Experienced and able to use a computer and the following:
Google Workspace, MS Office, Internet browsers and email (send/receive attachments) or other database driven systems Physical Aspects of the Job:
Ability to safely and properly operate kitchen equipment.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
Good visual acuity, good sense of balance, good overall physical condition.
Ability to lift and carry small loads (50 lbs) for short distances.

Time is flexible.
This is an exempt, full-time position May-September (extended hours and days), and slower during October- April (most weekends and 1-2 days mid week).
Pay commensurate with experience.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
